Santry Community Garden

Apple Trees in Orchard

The Santry Community Garden is a 4 ½ acre Victorian Walled Garden situated in the grounds of the Santry Demesne public park (in the heart of Santry Village, on the Old Swords Road, D9).

The Santry Community Garden group was formed in 2010 and since then have completely transformed the plot turning it into a wonderful amenity for the whole neighbourhood, providing training, tea and lots of laughs for our visitors and members.

The garden is split into 3 sections. The back section is the kitchen garden – which houses a shed, composting area, wildlife plot (with pond), polytunnel, herb garden, fruit trees and vegetable beds. The middle section is our Heritage Orchard which is planted with a wide range of heritage variety fruit trees and bushes. We run a tree sponsorship scheme to help fund this and so far have planted over 140 trees. The front section of the garden is being developed as an ornamental garden, suitable for picnics and events. It’s still a work in progress but we’re getting there.

Our garden is sustainable, inclusive, sympathetic to the historic nature of the site and we garden as organically as possible. We would love more people to become part of this great adventure, so why not come and see the garden when it’s open. You can sign up there and then. All are welcome – including children and dogs (on lead).

Where: Walled garden, Santry Demesne, Santry, Dublin 9. We are tucked away at the rear of the park so not easy to find; entrance to the garden is through the small side gate, which is to the top right hand side of the garden as you are looking at it, with the Morton Stadium behind you.
